Johnson County

Johnson County is home to 140,000 Iowans and a wide variety of businesses, including farming, retail, manufacturing and academics.

The county government’s responsibilities range from roads and bridges to human services, law enforcement, parks and natural resources. Iowa City is the seat of Johnson County and, as such, many of the county government offices are located there.

The Iowa City MSA, including Johnson and Washington counties, was among the nation’s 100 fastest growing metros between 2010 and 2014, according to US Census information. This area ranked 31st in growth respectively.

Johnson County ranks highest among other counties within the region in its percentage of residents 25 and older with a bachelor’s degree or higher (50.8%). Additionally, K-12 enrollment in this region is projected to increase more than 3 percent between 2011 and 2016.  (2012 State of Iowa Study)
