Today Shari DeMaris, Chair of the Iowa City Area Development Group Board of Directors, announces the resignation of ICAD President Mark Nolte. Nolte has accepted a position with North Liberty-based Moxie Solar where he will help lead the organization in becoming one of the few companies to assemble solar panels in the United States.
“Mark has been such an instrumental piece of ICAD for the past 13 years, and we are sad to see him go,” said DeMaris. “However, we are excited that he will be staying in our community, helping grow Moxie Solar. On behalf of the ICAD Board of Directors and our investors, we thank Mark for his leadership both with ICAD and within our community.”
Since joining ICAD in 2007, Nolte has worked tirelessly to grow new companies, support existing firms and attract new businesses to the Iowa City area.
More recently, Nolte led the initiative to open three coworking spaces in the Iowa City area — MERGE, North Liberty CoLab, and CoWork @ 808— which offer affordable rental space to startups and entrepreneurs in our area’s communities. This past year, he has helped spearhead the creation of two new seed funds for entrepreneurs and startups in Johnson County and has helped launch Iowa’s new Education Technology initiative with the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
“Leaving ICAD was an incredibly difficult decision to make, but I know the organization is in a great place. The ICAD team and our Board of Directors are amazing, and I have no doubt that they will continue the momentum to make sure that none of the progress we are making slows down,” said Nolte. “The last 13 years have been an incredible experience, and I am very proud and honored to have served the area in this role and am excited to be helping create more new jobs in this new opportunity with Moxie Solar”
ICAD’s Executive Team has announced that ICAD Vice President, Kate Moreland, will serve as the interim President. Additionally, the team is currently creating a plan for hiring the new president. A sendoff event for Nolte is planned for January 17, with more details to follow.
